Official DLSS 5 vs community mod

The two may use related neural-rendering technology, but their integration, hardware support, tuning, safety, and accountability are not the same.

Official launch schedule: NVIDIA scheduled DLSS 5 for September 3, 2026 at 9:00 PM Pacific Time—September 4 at 04:00 UTC and 12:00 China Standard Time. NBA 2K27 is the first supported game, for RTX 50 Series desktop/laptop GPUs and GeForce NOW.

When official DLSS 5 becomes available

NVIDIA says a new GeForce Game Ready Driver will launch at the same time. Install it through the NVIDIA app or NVIDIA’s driver site, then open NBA 2K27 Video Settings and enable DLSS Neural Rendering. The game supports an F9 toggle during gameplay and replays.

2K lists NBA 2K27’s worldwide launch for September 4, 2026. NVIDIA says more DLSS 5 game integrations will be announced over the coming weeks and months. It also expects performance-focused model updates in Fall 2026, but has not published exact dates.

Official integration

Official DLSS 5 is integrated by the developer through NVIDIA Streamline or an engine plugin. Developers supply renderer data, tune intensity and masks, protect UI, and choose where neural changes are allowed. NVIDIA drivers and the game expose the supported option.

Community mod

“DLSS 5 mod” usually means an unofficial stack that inserts neural rendering into a game that does not expose an official option. It may combine ReShade, a RenoDX-derived add-on, NVIDIA runtime files, and compatibility projects such as Bridge, Feeder, or OptiScaler.

Older RTX support uses modified community runtime builds. A successful launch does not turn that path into official RTX 40, RTX 30, or RTX 20 support.
